Whippets give the appearance of slender and very graceful dogs. The Whippet looks like a small greyhound. Though the breed seems elegant and fragile, it is actually quite hardy and strong. The Whippet's dense coat may come in black, red, fawn or slate blue colors. Whippets can be solid-colored or mixed. One of the hallmarks of the breed is its aristocratic long muzzle with rose-shaped ears and large dark eyes sparkling with alertness and intelligence. A slightly arched neck, a strong deep chest, a broad back and straight long legs make the picture of the Whippet complete.
Height: 19 inches in dogs and 17 inches in bitches
Weight: 18-28 pounds in dogs and 12-20 pounds in bitches
Life Span: around 12-15 years

The Whippet is very intelligent, docile, lively and affectionate. Whippets have an independent nature, which may present problems when training. Perfect obedience is hard to achieve in Whippets. They are sensitive creatures and are said to be good with children if raised with them. The Whippet is unsurpassed in their ability to accelerate to a very high speed. The breed is capable of remarkable stamina and intensity during sporting pursuits. Whippets can run up to 35 miles per hour. Whippets are great companions due to their sweet and affectionate nature. Whippets are sometimes used to hunt and make excellent watchdogs.
